Assessment report and meta-database

Venice and its lagoon constitute a complex social-ecological system that requires an integrated approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation, one that goes beyond disciplinary and institutional boundaries.
However, planning and management are hindered by the fragmentation of knowledge and the lack of a structured and inclusive platform to collect and make such knowledge accessible.

For this reason, the CSRCC aims to act as a bridge between research, policy-makers, and society in the Venetian context – systematizing and making existing data and knowledge available, and connecting this evidence to local needs and realities.
The Centre is developing the following two complementary lines of work.

1) Assessment report

A regional assessment report, inspired by the IPCC model, focusing on the impacts of climate change and adaptation strategies in the Venetian area.
Its goal is to synthesize and translate scientific knowledge into an accessible and useful format for decision-makers.

The CSRCC is designing a transparent and transdisciplinary preparation process, open to different scientific disciplines and forms of knowledge, and inclusive of the needs and perspectives of policy-makers and social actors.

2) Meta-database of climate change data and research in the Venetian context

An online, publicly accessible meta-database that collects, organizes, and makes available the wide variety of data and disciplinary approaches related to climate change in the Venetian context.

To achieve this, the CSRCC is conducting extensive information gathering to map ongoing and past research initiatives, the data they use and produce, and the main findings and recommendations that emerge.
This effort will provide the knowledge base for the Assessment Report and create a unified platform for accessing climate-related data and information on the CSRCC website.

How to contribute to the meta-database

We invite research groups, public institutions, consortia, universities, and individual scholars working on climate change from different disciplinary perspectives and whose results are relevant for the Venetian territory (e.g. climate projections, risk analyses, environmental, economic, or social impacts, adaptation strategies, mitigation strategies, etc.), to contribute to the meta-database:

  • by filling in an online form soon available;
  • by contacting the coordinator, Dr. Nicolò Ardenghi, at nicolo.ardenghi@csrcc.it.

The information collected will be used to:

  • build a shared meta-database, publicly accessible on the CSRCC website, that systematizes and makes existing research results and data easily searchable;
  • identify relationships, complementarities and possible knowledge gaps;
  • foster interdisciplinary collaboration for the preparation of the Venice Climate Assessment Report.
